Diversion Dams - an upsteam solution to flooding issues
There are times when even a deep beaver dam would not pose a threat to human interests provided a culvert remains completely open. In situations such as these, controlling the size of the pond with a Flexible Pond Leveler TM is not necessary, so building a diversion dam upstream of a Culvert Protective Fence may be the best beaver management option.

effectively diverted...
The culvert protective fence is installed to keep the culvert open, and the diversion dam is started approximately ten feet upstream of the fence to encourage beaver damming away from the fence. Typically this is done by strategic placement of preexisting stones in the streambed which cause some pooling and water noise. This will stimulate the beavers to dam upon the diversion dam rather than the culvert fence.
